There’s only so much my brain can handle in one day.  Today, it’s been completely overwhelmed by this video, which stars a ton of incredibly talented voice actors doing some of my favorite characters reading the radio drama of Star Wars: A New Hope.

I haven’t felt the urge to actually watch Star Wars for… a little while now.  But this definitely rekindled my love for it, at least a little bit.

I guess it’s probably bound to happen that, something you found and loved as a child, if it’s expanded upon when you’re an adult, you’re going to pick it apart mercilessly.  You have unrealistic expectations now.  A movie (series) like Star Wars, you have it up on a pedestal.  Tinkering with that, even adding to it…  It’s a treacherous step to take.

But the kids who got to see the prequels at or around the age I saw the originals, they seem to enjoy them.  And then they get to go on in the story, to see what happened with Luke, Leia and Han.  To them, it’s an even larger story, and it all goes together.  They didn’t have to imagine what the Clone Wars were for the last twenty years.  They didn’t think about what a younger Yoda would look like (or, rather, we’re all still wondering).  It never occurred to them that we expected a different story (from what was said about the prequels for many years).  And, sadly, for them, Han never shot first (or only).

But that’s fine, I guess.  I had a good long life with those movies.  And it’s maybe better I moved on (to things like The Avengers), grew up, whatever.  It’s good to be able to pass things on.

But the cartoon actors, doing to radio play…  I like to think that this one is for all of us.  We all win.
