We’ve reached the wondrous weather of the year that causes your Captain continuous sinus headaches and misery.  Good times.  I’ve got myself on various sorts of pills and caplets and supposi—  Oh.  No.  Not that last one.

Meanwhile, despite all that, I had a fantastic time hanging out with local author and editor Ross E. Lockhart yesterday, nabbing my copy of his new book, Chick Bassist, while we chatted about writing and movies and just cool stuff in general.  Nothing like hanging with other artists, particularly cool ones, to recharge one’s creativity.

And, once I get this dull thump out of my head and neck, I hope to put that charge to good use.

For now, though, it’s back to cringing and whining.  Neck rub, anyone?

Actually, as they float into the air, it looks a bit like they’re doing the Lambada.  LamBaujahr?  Whatever it is, I can only assume it’s forbidden.

I spent most of today playing around with the newly released Kindle Comic Creator, trying to get a feel for it, and basically learning some photo editing programs myself (Levi can’t be expected to do everything…  I mean, he can.  And he usually is.  But I’m trying here).

It’s a goal of mine to put Baujahr, and other Don’t Ask Comics titles, in front of as many eyeballs as possible.  I love working on the site, and it’ll stick around, of course.  But Kindles, iPads, Android tablets… they’re certainly a pretty comfortable read.  And while there’s some great apps (like the one from Comic-Rocket that’s being beta-tested right now), every option is being explored.  Including (gasp!) print, as Levi likes paper.  I kinda do too.

Anyway, it’s a long process, and I can’t promise anything, but we’re trying, folks.  Let us know in the comments what your preferred reading medium is.  And, remember, if you like print, you can always catch Baujahr every month in Flint Comix!

Yes, that’s right.  One of the things I kind of decided on when going into this new storyline was that Baujahr and Jeff needed some additional castmates.  Middle Ground is going to (hopefully) enrich the cast a bit, bring in some new voices, some new personalities.  But not in a way that diminishes that, at its heart, the story is still about Baujahr and Jeff.

It’s a challenge, and we’ll see how we pull it off in the end.

And if you’re asking, no, Cornell isn’t a regular, if only because I couldn’t type up rhymes like that on a weekly basis without needing to throttle myself.  But he’s not going away just yet either.

Yes, kids, we have finally moved on from the mushroom huts and more filler than you’d find in your average hot dog (seriously, I must be starving to death with all this food talk), to our official Second Book of Baujahr!

We’re calling it Middle Ground, and I’m sure there’s probably one or two obvious reasons why that you’ll figure out for yourselves.

Since it’s been more than a couple months (since before Christmas, in fact), we’re giving you a lyrical recap.  But don’t let this stop you, as you can read the entire archived story of Baujahr (broken up by Chapters now, so you can feel even more confused) here on this very site!  You can also read through Levi’s other strip, Strobe!, even though it seems to have stalled for the moment (he promises to get back to it soon).  And there may be a couple other things you can nose your way into, but we won’t talk too much about them until there’s more to say.

In the meantime, welcome to our new tale.

Meaning, yes, it may’ve felt like it took forever, but we’ve finally reached The End, the REAL end, to Baujahr’s trip into nostalgia with the Früms.  We milked… er… juiced it for all it was worth, and then some.  But at least we were able to work in Peyo’s original creations, Johan and Peewit (no, really!  It’s them!  Try holding your laptop up to a mirror, you’ll see it) before we closed things off for good.
And for good (or ill) it is.  Nostalgia can only take us so far, and while it’s fun to tromp all over and befoul someone else’s creations once in a while, Levi and I are happy to get back screwing up our own.  Starting next week, we’re moving onto the second official Book of Baujahr.  We hope it you guys are looking forward to it, because we definitely are.

And, after that, join us here for Baujahr Meets the Shirt Tales!  But we’ll probably call them Pant-Babies or something equally clever…
